The Christmas Cantata “In dulci jubilo” by Lucio Mosè Benaglia in the Bürgersaalkirche in Munich

On 30 January 2022, a spiritual concert will take place in Munich’s Bürgersaalkirche after the Holy Mass in italian, featuring the first performance of Lucio Mosè Benaglia’s cantata ‘In dulci jubilo’ for soloists, choir, string orchestra and basso continuo.

The performance will be given by soprano Judith Hesping, tenor Gerhard Hölzle and the choir and orchestra Ensemble MaxVokal from Munich under the conduction of Gerald Häußler. Konstantin Esterl will play the organ.

The cantata, whose libretto in german language prepared by the composer uses texts from the  Gospel according to Luke and German Christmas carols, was created as part of a scholarship programme awarded by the German Ministry of Art and Culture to encourage compositions for smaller ensembles, which are more suitable for performance in these pandemic times.

In addition to the cantata, other pieces by the composer will be performed, including the Theme, Variations and Fugue on “O du fröhliche for strings.
