Description Nr.1a: piece composed on the unforgettable lyrics by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, written at the end of 1944 in captivity, a few months before he was executed in Buchenwald concentration camp.

Of the original lyrics, the first and last verse are used.

7. Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen,
erwarten wir getrost, was kommen mag.

Nr.2a: A piece inspired by the delicate and moving poetic text of Carlo Poma, hero of the Italian Risorgimento, written to his own mother shortly before being savoured together with his other companions, martyrs of Belfiore, in 1852.  Here the original text:

La tempesta che l’alma mia scompiglia;
Il seren mi ritorna sulle ciglia
E aspetto con ardir l’aspra tenzone.

In quest’orribil carcere, quand’ io
Teco favello, abbenchè in vista nulla,
Pur ti sento vicina come viva.

Cosí nei primi dì del viver mio,
Se tacita movevi alla mia culla,
Io sorridea dormendo e ti sentiva.
