First performance of the Stabat Mater for Mariupol by Lucio Mosè Benaglia

On 1 April at 7.30 p.m. in Munich’s Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and on 2 April at 8 p.m. in Munich’s Bürgersaalkirche, the first performance will be given of my Stabat Mater for Mariupol, a large-scale composition (about 50 minutes) for choir and string orchestra on a text from the Stabat Mater and written from the terrible events that took place in the Ukrainian city just a year ago.

The performance will be entrusted to Munich’s MaxVokal conducted by Gerald Häußler, who will be accompanied by the Ukrainische Kammerphilarmonie, an orchestra composed of Ukrainian musicians, some of whom have lived here in Munich for some time and some of whom have fled Ukraine since the first days of the war, finding temporary refuge in the Bavarian capital.

The concert will also feature the Pokrow Chor, the choir of Munich’s Ukrainian Greek Catholic community, which, under the baton of Wasyl Zakopets will perform a Passion cantata by Ukrainian composer Artem Wedel (1770-1808).

The concert is chargeable and tickets will be on sale for 20 Euro at the concert box office from 7.30 p.m. on the evening of the concert. The event has no financial support and is financed exclusively by ticket sales to the public.
