16 Sep 2026 The Italian premiere of Lucio Mosè Benaglia’s “Stabat Mater for Mariupol”
On Saturday 26 September 2026 at 8.30 pm, Lucio Mosè Benaglia’s “Stabat Mater for Mariupol” will receive its Italian premiere at the parish church of Almenno San Bartolomeo.
The composition, which has already been performed several times in Germany, is structured in fourteen movements for solo voices, choir and string orchestra, and transposes the traditional meditation of the Stabat Mater into a contemporary tragedy: that of Mariupol (which literally means ‘City of Mary’), a Ukrainian city scarred by war. The sorrow of the Mother at the foot of the cross, at the heart of the 13th-century Catholic sequence, thus also becomes a form of remembrance for the present.
The performance will feature soloists Laura Faig (soprano) and Marta Miccoli (contralto), the MaxVokal choir from Munich and the MusicAlmenno Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gerald Häußler.
