Lucio Mosè Benaglia’s cantata “In dulci jubilo” in the Leipzig Thomaskirche

On the occasion of the traditional Motetten held in Leipzig’s Thomaskirche every Saturday afternoon, the baroque Christmas cantata “In dulci jubilo” Op.29 by Lucio Mosè Benaglia, composed in 2021 to a libretto by the composer himself, will be presented on 4 January 2025. The cantata, consisting of three choruses, two arias and recitatives in the tradition of the Lutheran Baroque cantata, will be performed by the MaxVokal and the MaxVokal Ensemble from Munich conducted by Gerald Häußler. The soprano Friedrike Urban, tenor Julian Häußler and flutist Nataliia Pavliv will take part in the performance. The basso continuo will be played by organist Konstantin Esterl and the cello by Matthias Schröter.

On Friday, 3 January, the MaxVokal will present an all a cappella programme for the Friday Motetten in the Thomaskirche, including the motet “Maria durch ein Dornwald ging” by Lucio Mosè Benaglia. By the same Benaglia, on the occasion of the solemn mass on Sunday, 5 January, also in the Thomaskirche, arrangements for choir and orchestra of pieces by John Rutter and William James Kirkpatrick will be performed.
